GA4 Revenue Is Less Than Shopify Total Sales and Order

I set GA4 ecommerce tracking for my website and noticed there’s been a continual discrepancy where the GA4 purchase revenue was less than the total sales within Shopify.

In GA4, it says Purchase revenue = purchases + in-app purchases + subscriptions - refunds

On Shopify, total sales is calculated by:

Total sales=gross-discounts-returns+shipping+taxes+duties+fees

This has been the percentage difference when looking at Shopify’s total sales and GA4’s purchase revenue:

  • December - 45.24%
  • January - 8.5% difference
  • February - 36.91% difference
  • March - 14.29% difference

All the previous gtag and Google Tag Manager Setup were paused before activating SRA Analytics

What’s your store’s URL?

Hi Kevin, the URL is https://www.koibird.com/

Is this due to specific Shopify metrics in the sales formulas not being represented in GA4?

Hi Kevin, any updates on this? I also noticed users were affected too

I wouldn’t expect revenue or users to match Shopify. What is the delta in purchases?

Hi Kevin, a discrepancy was expected, but it seems the discrepancies between the orders from Shopify and the revenue have become excessive, with the GA4 data being too low compared to Shopify.

For the purchases, there were 97 total purchasers in GA4, whereas in Shopify the total orders was 228 for the period of 1st - 28th April.

Revenue was at 33k in GA4, whereas in Shopify, it’s 58k.
