Events not appearing in GA4 Settings

Hello, I’m seeing add_to_cart and begin_checkout events in GA4 real-time reporting but neither of those two events appear as events in GA4 Events. Obviously not appearing in Events means I’m not able to designate them as conversions which is the end goal.

This is just using your GA4 integration, not GTM. One other clue is two new events from your integration do appear (identify and view_search_results).

Any thoughts? Thank you!

It takes 24 hours for Google process data. If you see them in the real time report then they will definitely show in the events report

Hi Kevin,

It’s been 72 hours now. I think there’s more to the story due to trying multiple GA4 and GTM Shopify apps - it seems like there’s a possible data error caused by one of the ghost apps.

Another clue is prior to SlideRule, I had defaulted back to the Google/Youtube app and was using the default GA4 integration. It was pushing duplicate add_to_cart, begin_checkout and purchase events.

Maybe it needs more time and it will sort it out but I’m getting skeptical.

Thanks!

Do you still not see any add to cart events for the whole date range that you’ve had SlideRule installed?

So yesterday had a transaction which fired the purchase conversion (system default). I happened to notice that both add_to_cart and begin_checkout fired on real time, I got lucky to catch it.

Looking at the last 7 days of reporting the add_to_cart and begin_checkout still don’t show as events.

The last GA4 migration I did was for a different ecommerce site back in June and at that time, the process was to create the event first and then designate events as conversions. Now it seems like you can optionally manually create conversions without creating events first. So as a test, I manually created add_to_cart and begin_checkout as conversions, these were added a couple of hours ago.

I also added manual events (same names) but from my experience in June, adding them manually will create duplicate event counts once events are populated from the GA4 or GTM event push.

It shouldn’t be this complicated, which is why I’m leaning towards something being broken.

Thanks again,
James

What’s your store’s URL? I’ll check that everything is firing as expected

Thanks, Kevin

I see that the add to cart event is firing on the front end. If you like, you can send me a screenshare (I recommend loom.com) of what you’re seeing and I can take a look and see what’s going wrong.

Hi @kevin and @jnholt3 .

I think this problem is caused by data thresholds, if you changed in the Identity Report the method with Analytics uses to associate events with users to deviced based, then you will see the event add_to_cart into standard reports.

If your select Blended Method and your event add_to_cart is less to 50 event, then GA4 will not show this event in standar report:

Hi Kevin & TomasM,

I just made the change Tomas recommended, that makes a ton of sense. I’ll continue to monitor and update in the next day or so.

I’m seeing conversions where I manually added them, but they still don’t show as events.

Thanks to you both!

Thanks for this great answer! I did did not know this one.

Wanted to follow up - the change TomasM mentioned re: Blended Modeling Method didn’t fix my reporting.

Another clue is I’m still seeing duplicate Add to Cart conversions in GA4 (still no Add to Cart events though). The duplicate Add to Cart conversions is a clue and I think it speaks to the bigger issue of something pushing the event twice even though Sliderule is the only GA4 app and I removed the Shopify Google/Youtube app months ago.

There’s definitely a bigger issue going on but I’m not sure how to diagnose it.

How do you know you’re seeing duplicate add to carts? Can you share a loom video?
